The following is a description of the framework used to conduct the artistic and scientific works within the STEAM principle. The framework helps to make sure the work being carried out meets the criteria of STEAM as well as putting an artistic emphasis and analyzation on the work. The framework allows a sense of structure in the pursuit of proving it. This structure is affectionately named; LSF (light, sound, and form) and is an observation that everything in our physical reality is an expression of light (or subtle energies). Through academic research I pursued in ancient language, scripts and writing from 2009 – 2012; ‘golden’, ‘sacred’ and other similar words are reductive and descriptive words for light. In pursuit of proving this framework, I have conduced that the golden ratio is a numerical proof of light and its variations are expressions of light.

In further investigation, a monograph on the metaphysical significance of PI (3.14) revealed an interesting incidence in that the author conduced that PI is an intersection of linear and nonlinear reality. Through a conversation with a colleague; she had theorized that light equated with attention and darkness equated with the unseen. Therefore an interaction or intersection (of light and dark) exists: for an experience to be created. Upon concluding this discussion I conduced that experience also equated with expression and that reality is an expression of light; if two different forms of light intersected those existences or experiences would be distorted to create new existences or experiences (realities) – that which are manifested into spiral forms as expressions of light intersecting with one another. Which might explain the golden ratio prominence in nature, and one might deduce from this that the physical world is just an interference (with another source). Physical reality as an interference is not a new theory, this research framework is just a new way to explain scientific phenomena that may not otherwise be able to be explained.

LSF is the structure and framework for this intersection and foundation of this work; to prove a special kind of existence through scientific proofs and artworks. LSF can be found in many variations – organisms are entirely different expressions; every plant, tree, animal and living entity is just another expression, existence or experience. LSF is the distortion and creates the visual that we see and associate with that plant, tree or animal. Man-made materials are LSF in a non-natural state, a passive existence; they exist, but only block the truest form of experience and expression.

Through scientific studies of plant, tree, animal using LSF; a further understanding of its framework can be found. In mycology, mycelium provide a network of communication that plants and trees use. Stanford researchers have found examples of electrical current stemming from plants of which its’ source is photosynthesis; a plant’s method of converting sunlight to chemical energy and a ‘proof of LSF’. Research has already been done on using different wavelengths of light on orchid seed germination and its’ effects on growth. Light is very effective in stimulating life (or expression, distortion, growth) and creating a new distortion or visual. Finally, there is no surprise that researchers at UCSB were able to control the electron spin of an atom, electrically (light intersecting light).

Sounds or vibrations are sometimes the cause of light or form or both. In the study of cymatics; vibratory sounds create forms on a square or circular plate that is connected to a sound source. In cold fusion or sonofusion, bubbles implode when excited by sound and create short bursts of light. Researchers at UCLA can concentrate the energy of a sound wave in fluid (form), which produces 12 orders of magnitude to create flashes of light that can be shorter than 50 picoseconds; a picosecond is a millionth of a millionth of a second.

And finally, there is form, or in biology morphogenesis: the shaping of an organism by embryological processes of differentiation of cells, tissues, and organs and the development of organ systems according to the genetic “blueprint” of the potential organism and environmental conditions. However, form can also include non-biological processes as described in the study of cymatics; though vibration can be a cause of form, which can also be found in biology. Form is the definition for which the distortion or LSF takes on. It’s the visual we associate with every plant, tree or animal. Additionally, forms in nature can be genetically modified through molecular genetics. A molecular scientist can change the flower color (distortion) in a chrysanthemum producing a white-flowering variety that has never-before existed or expressed.

At the Cambridge Science Festival, we aim to create a shared cultural festival from the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math experiences in our lives.  Kristi Beisecker was a wonderful addition to our art and technology workshops in the 2014 science festival, engaging a diverse audience with her electrography work.  Particularly the use of organic materials, plants and fauna, was effective and beautiful.
