Surface & Depth exhibition at The Golden Thread Gallery

Surface & Depth
The Golden Thread Gallery

10559889_890557867624184_6154000368628523859_nOn Saturday the 13th I drove out to West Hartford, CT to attend the reception for the Surface & Depth gallery. I really like this space and it is cool that it is underneath a monastery/spiritual retreat center. I’m thinking about becoming a member once I have some extra money. I like that their exhibition themes are big/philosophical ideas rather than ‘landscapes’ or ‘still lives’, etc. I actually found it very hard to choose which exhibit to submit my artwork to! Many of their themes for this season can fit my artwork. This is Seaweed’s first group show. πŸ™‚ Being a spiritual retreat center the crowd was a little bit older, so the reception was quieter than normal, and I didn’t really know anyone there which made it hard to reach out and mingle. But I’m glad I went because the energy of the place was really nice and it’s a great gallery.

Institute for Human Centered Design – Reception

DSCN0390July 23rd, I went into Boston to attend the reception for the ADA 24th Celebration at the Institute for Human Centered Design. I really wanted this exhibition, and I’m glad that my artwork was accepted! This was pine needles second exhibition (Gallery Ehva was first). The reception was very nice and it great to meet the people behind the exhibition and event. There was a poetry slam after the reception and then my family and my brother’s girlfriend and I went to Ward 6, a really good restaurant near by. Great evening!

Witches Brew Coffee House, Long Island and an Interview

I left at 11am this morning to go to an interview in West Babylon, NY for tomorrow. It is an in-house graphic design position. I am excited for it, as the position fit me to a T. I used Airbnb again and my host is lovely. He’s a desktop publishing teacher for the financial sector so I thought it was interesting that I picked his apartment! I went up the day before so I could arrive on-time and stress free at my interview.

The company is called Saberin Systems and they generally make products in technology for the 10525485_1459870944262706_262918770_nfinancial sector, I guess their office is expanding and they are looking for more internal employees. It looks like the work will mostly be internal and not for external customers.

On the way I passed I wicked cool cafe on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead called The Witches Brew Cafe! It was a bit expensive, but I wanted to try it out because apparently it is a very popular attraction. I had their baked brie and cho hazelnut marsh drink, the baked brie was delicious. I thought it was very good and the decor is very cool! As a gypsy soul I felt very at home there. πŸ™‚

I then walked around a bit and bought milk for breakfast tomorrow. I’m planning on stopping by The Genie Within, a metaphysical store in Babylon before my interview. I don’t expect to buy anything but it’d be cool to check it out at least. I’m also hoping to snap a few photos before I leave.

A Solo Show: Electrolyte!

groundingsllc2I had my reception for Electrolyte! yesterday at Groundings! It was a great success and the right amount of time too. I think 2 hours for a reception is good. For Studio19, my reception/party I think was 3 hours, but I guess it depends on the event. It was just enough for me to meet some of the locals and talk about my artwork.

It was fun meeting a woman who happened to work at the photography studio right next to Minuteman Press. She was their photo retoucher and just happened to be there for a massage but enjoyed the artwork as well once she learned more about it.

I want to say there was a small crowd of people at the reception. Which was nice because I did a lot of internet marketing, but I couldn’t get my press release onto any of the media websites because it was membership only. Meh. For refreshments there was snapple, water and soda and we had cookies and a fruit bowl.

My parents told me that they got married in a park in Noho and wanted to check out the park as well as Main st. At the tapas restaurant we had a lot of delicious food! I even liked some dishes that I normally would turn my nose up at… and that was really refreshing. We had their mussels, crab croquettes, vegetable crepes, meatballs, pork raviolis, short ribs and raw tuna.

What a Shaman See’s In a Mental Hospital

This is one of the most enlightening articles I’ve read in awhile regarding Mental Illness… and it makes SO much sense from this point of view and what is happening around me. This enlightenment has been having me thinking that one of the things that I’ve always wanted to do is go to an indigenous culture or village and learn to become a shaman:

In the shamanic view, mental illness signals β€œthe birth of a healer,” explains Malidoma Patrice SomΓ©.Β  Thus, mental disorders are spiritual emergencies, spiritual crises, and need to be regarded as such to aid the healer in being born.

What those in the West view as mental illness, the Dagara people regard as β€œgood news from the other world.”  The person going through the crisis has been chosen as a medium for a message to the community that needs to be communicated from the spirit realm.Β  β€œMental disorder, behavioral disorder of all kinds, signal the fact that two obviously incompatible energies have merged into the same field,” says Dr. SomΓ©.Β  These disturbances result when the person does not get assistance in dealing with the presence of the energy from the spirit realm.

Younger Than Amy: Reception

10432010_530199750415228_1366778936_nI had a fantastic time this past week with the Younger than Amy exhibition. After dropping my artwork off on Sunday I came in on Tuesday and helped Ewa, the owner, take down the current artwork and patch up the walls and prepare for the exhibition. Thursday, I came back and hung up the artwork. Friday (yesterday), was the opening reception and once people started to relax a bit more and talk to each other I started to get to know the other artists. I ended up hanging around and talked to them and we ended up going out to Provincetown for the evening. We grabbed food and then bar hopped, one of them paid for my drinks so I didn’t have to worry about running out of cash so that was nice. Our first destination was the Underground, then we went to another one that I forgot the name of that had stand-up comedy and the last one was dance club, called Velvet and then danced for the rest of the evening. The others went back to the Underground after10369337_738870269467033_996069375_nwords and I had to go home since it was getting late that time. They were probably the most down-to-earth people I have met and I felt really welcomed and included. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go since I was accepted into the show last minute, but now I have met some of the locals here and it feels really nice. πŸ™‚ It also felt nice to just let loose since I haven’t really done that for awhile.

Damanhur Federation

For those who aren’t sure what I research… I research how conscious reality sustains itself through light, sound and vibration. I try and answer questions as to how physical reality is created and sustained… as scientists look through a microscope into matter all they see are atoms and space but yet, our world is full of living breathing organisms. Yes, there are other things that factor into the reality around us (our brains, for example). Recently, scientists have just figured out how to make matter from light. Awhile ago I read an article about how a neurosurgeon was able to reproduce the effects of a coma… in which he experienced a ‘heaven’ like reality. Although, dangerous as one can ‘loose’ themselves in the coma and can never wake, it provides more evidence into the reality that we live in every day. The way this neurosurgeon was able to reproduce the same effect, was through sound. If sound can alter our current conscious reality into something else, shouldn’t that lead to something?

But the next question is… how to get myself to Damanhur! Grants yes, I suppose I need to do some research on grants for independent researchers and such or try to convert my research into an art project.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id=”sg498_8790gxe”][vc_custom_heading text=”Support the Research” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:25px|text_align:left|color:%2311322a” google_fonts=”font_family:Playfair%20Display%3Aregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_custom_heading text=”New Products” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:100%20light%20regular%3A100%3Anormal” el_class=”widget-title”][vc_masonry_grid post_type=”post” max_items=”4″ element_width=”6″ gap=”10″ item=”basicGrid_NoAnimation” grid_id=”vc_gid:1568586336111-47002366-773b-4″ taxonomies=”579, 632, 631, 580, 582, 581″][vc_custom_heading text=”Other Posts” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:100%20light%20regular%3A100%3Anormal” el_class=”widget-title”][vc_masonry_grid post_type=”post” max_items=”4″ element_width=”6″ gap=”10″ item=”basicGrid_NoAnimation” grid_id=”vc_gid:1568586336156-c190592e-a7da-4″ taxonomies=”132″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Mayfair Festival Part 1

Wednesday, I left Longmeadow and I drove 7 hours to Quarkertown/Allentown, PA to drop off my artwork for the Mayfair festival. During my time here I’ve been visiting as many friends as possible. Tonight I saw my friends Samantha and Will and we ate dinner at a sports bar. It was so good to see them again and catch up. Being 6 hours away its difficult to come up often and see them. I’m staying with my friend Richelle in Quakertown as it’s a half hour drive to Allentown.

I haven’t had the heart to go back to this area since my falling out with Kris but I happy to say that I feel like I have mostly completely moved on from that. It just hurts to think I’ll never know what really went down for sure with that.

Tomorrow I’m planning on going to the Quakertown Farmer’s Market and taking a drive around the town and take a few pictures. Later in the evening, I’m attending the Meet the Artist receptions at the festival opening tomorrow and I’ll be taking my friend Richelle on Saturday and then leaving on Saturday evening. I’ll write up a second part after I come home on Saturday!

It’s Not Everyday You Meet a Soothsayer

Saturday evening I came home from my whirlwind trip to Santa Barbara, CA for an interview at Letter Perfect & Paper Ink. The interview went really well and there was a lot of positive things from it. SO, I feel pretty good about it. The interviewer had me do a 15 min test – design a business card under 15 mins and she like the overall design as well as everything else I presented to her.

The morning of my departure (I left in the evening), I had taken out scrapbook paper that had a handmade feel to it and printed my resume on it. I went the extra mile and printed on nice stationery since it is a stationery company. For the Minuteman Press position I had made my resume into an 8.5 x 5.5 booklet.

The evening after I received the invite, I learned my friend Gwen that I visited last September was going to be in the same proximity as I was in Santa Barbara. She was camping and was staying at the top of the hill where I was staying at the bottom. Thursday was SO hot that I slept late and got breakfast at Beachbreak Cafe and just walked the beach a little bit and then went home. Too hot to do anything really that day. The day of the interview was gorgeous and it was a lot easier to do things.

I met up with my friend Gwen at Sambo’s after the interview for mimosa’s to celebrate. We were comparing tarot notes as she is a reader too and at the end of the lunch the lady behind me turned around and asked if we could read her. We decided at 7 pm that evening that we’d meet and give her a reading. Afterwords, Gwen and I went deck shopping and I picked up Tarot of the Old Path as it was one of two decks that spoke to me for this particular reading. I don’t always buy a new deck for a new client, but Gwen wanted to go deck shopping anyway so I figured why not. It ended up being a 2 hr reading and walked away with $200 that Gwen and I split. I never had done a duo reading (two readers for one client). But it worked really well! Gwen knows a lot more about the systems than I do, and I just used my ability and experience with the cards and the knowledge that comes through. I’m not sure how much our client got out of the reading as she had been drinking and since alcohol shuts off my ability we couldn’t drink with her during the reading. Though I had a glass of wine or two afterwords and left for home. The whole trip was so synchronistic it made me wonder about the mojo bag I had blessed before I left on Tuesday evening for Wellesley.

A few weeks ago I performed a spell for the intention of finding employment before May 12th (the date that I was invited to the interview). For me, spells bend the light that is around you (as science has proposed that matter can be created from light) and help you attract the light that works best for you. That is my definition of spells and magick. As such, working with shapes and colors really work with this theory of magick because nature communicates through symbolism and archetypes. Anyway, in the mojo bag from the herb blend I had created previously for the spell I put:

– Alfalfa Leaf; money, prosperity- Benzoin: purification, soothing, dispelling anger
– Bergmot: money, prosperity, protection from evil & illness
– Meadowsweat: Increases chance of getting a job
– Pine Bark: clean breaks, new beginnings, prosperity, success, strength

And for crystals I had used the specimens that were in my crystal garden at Minuteman and then cleansed in my pyramid under the full moon…

– Citrine : Merchants Stone, Money energies, increase self-esteem, protect from negative energy from someone else’s abuse, open the mind to new thoughts, promote clarity of thought, attracting wealth and prosperity, promoting generosity, sharing good fortune, assists in fast money ventures, strengthens inner light and creativity, etc.
– Malachite : protection, absorbing negative energies, clear electromagnetic pollution and heals earth energies, a stone of travel and overcoming fears of flying, helps with jetlag and encourages smooth business travel, a stone for support for airplane and airline workers
– Tiger Eye : enhance our own personal power, release blocked creativity, and to bring good luck, prosperity, wealth and success.
– Quartz : harmony, balance, healing, releasing negative energy
– Carnelian : increase ambition, drive and confidence, protection from negative emotions, warmth, sociability, creativity and happiness, restore self-esteem, abundance

I definitely think the herbs + crystals worked their magick this trip. Especially powerful during the full moon which I believe was in scorpio which was all about death/rebirth and new beginnings.
