California Seventeen: Introduction – Numerology

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Inquiry: California Seventeen: Introduction – Numerology” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:100%20light%20regular%3A100%3Anormal” el_class=”widget-title”][vc_column_text]Since the Occult teaches that the language of nature is symbolism and the science of symbolism is the law of correspondence, it literally states that everything is interconnected and relates to one another in some way. Something about the fact that during my spiritual retreat I split my time between two cities and the high way number was 17 I found peculiar. 17 reduced (1+7) equals to 8. In some systems 8 is the number of Karma and Fate. However, in Kabbalah, 8 means total control. Regaining control, or independence. In the tarot, the suites of are 8 of cups, 8 of wands, 8 of swords and finally 8 of pentacles. Ironically (or is it?) I experienced every aspect of those energies of those cards. 8.cups: taking a risk, consciously deciding to move on, feeling stuck, etc. 8.wands: Communication, attraction, messages, etc 8.swords: worry, concern, analyzation, etc 8.Pentacles: work, success, co-working, etc. Coincidence? I think not! I was vibrating in the energy of the 8 throughout the trip. 8 also corresponds to the Justice card in the Major Arcana as well – something will be made right, the wrongs will be made right  – because I went on that trip.

Some adjectives of the 8 are:

– Strong, independent, confident and determined, goals, organization, career orientated, lone ranger – few friends, a long memory, carry your animosity till death, extremist, either aspire for and get great honor and success or massive failure, prevalent norms and often come into conflict with social or moral values, represents upheavals, revolution, anarchy, waywardness and eccentricities of all kinds While the other side represents philosophical thought, strong learning towards occult Studies, religious devotion, concentration of purpose, relentless zeal for any cause and a fatalistic outlook, may like to live alone because of many sad experiences in marital life or difficulties in finding a suitable partner. (source)

Adjectives of 17 are:

– Insight, responsibility, self-discipline, strength, compassion, spiritual consciousness, wisdom, a desire for peace and love for all of humanity. It is the ability to see beyond to find the hidden truth.  It is universal healing, truth and understanding. may travel often, especially in connection with their work. Many who come under these energies have extremely high psychic and clairvoyant abilities. The number 17 is a highly Spiritual number and has been expressed by the Ancient Chaldeans as the 8 Pointed Star of Venus.  It is the Star of Love and Peace and promises a 17 Day person the will to rise superior in Spirit to the trials and difficulties of earlier life. (source)

Once studied, it truly amazes me how these small details come into play.

California Seventeen Series Overview

Overview Hello! I am back from my trip to California. Since I’ve been home, I’ve been thinking of ways to write about my trip and I’ve decided to do a little series on here. I did so much and covered so much and there were so many aspects and dimensions of my trip that it needs to be written in this way. So over the next few weeks/month I’m going to be writing about my trip. I’m calling it, “California Seventeen” because that was the highway that spanned from Santa Cruz to San Jose in which I split my time. As a result I drove 666 miles in 6 days. Yikes.

Anyway, here is how the series will be split up:

Washington DC Reflections

My trip to Washington DC has photobeen amazing! Tuesday, I woke up quarter to 7 am and left to go to the airport around 8 am. I left Boston at 10 am and arrived in DC by 11 am – I entertained myself on the plane by reading some material that AMORC sent me the week before.  I was in my hotel room by 12:30 pm. After I arrived I went to a french organic cafe called Le Pain Quotiden! Really good food for the price. In the late afternoon, I walked around National Mall and saw the Washington Monument which was cool, but unfortunately the earthquake that happened a few years ago in 2011, damaged it and its’ going to take at least 3 years to finish. So there was a big scaffold around the monument and the park area was closed. But I could still walk around it and take pictures. I intended to walk to the White House but somehow went the opposite direction and ended up at the Lincoln Memorial. But it took so long to get there since it was so bloody hot and humid that by the time I got there, I didn’t have the energy or time to walk up to the monument. I really needed to get back to the hotel to get ready for the reception. So walked around the monument and called a cab to the hotel.

bc9892c41a8111e38a5622000a1fbe35_7Reception: It was so much fun!! People really had no problem coming up to me and asking me about my artwork which was really nice! I even got to sign my autograph again which is always fun. Then right before I was handed my check, someone who was working the reception came up to me and said that Joe Kennedy whose the congressman for the 4th district of Massachusetts wanted to meet me and see my artwork! The reception photographer was right there and snapped a few photos of us standing next to my work. He was so sweet! He asked me about my process, and I was busy explaining my process to him when they called me up to the podium I was not prepared to be the first one called up, should’ve known, but so not prepared! lol  Some of my favorite moments besides the Joe Kennedy one; the mother of the grand prize winner came up to me and said that she really liked it and thought how similar they looked and said she’d buy it.

Wednesday Morning: I had brunch with the jurors at the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts. The food was good and the conversation was great. Nothing too new came out of the conversation in terms of information, but it was nice to meet the judges and hear about their background and process with choosing the artwork. I had one of my fellow artists come up to me interested in a psychic reading, but unfortunately we couldn’t do it this trip. I told her to feel free to call me whenever she was ready.

1240531_2205118327767_1721654814_nThen we headed over to Flashpoint Gallery and had an interesting conversation with one of the curators of the gallery. I think that information was more beneficial to me. Gave me a new perspective on some things, one of the things I really liked that came out of that talk was if the opportunity isn’t there, make it happen! I’ve thought about doing talks and speeches and haven’t really thought of using my studio space or some other venue or use my studio space more than just a studio space. I have started to think differently about it with my opening, but that’s to be expected.

After, before I headed to my duck tour, I went to a souvenir shop near by and bought a frame,  a Washington Monument sharpener and a pair of sunglasses. I had been meaning to buy a new pair and saw them for $6. Compared to department store prices that’s a bargain! lol They are also an ultra cool orange that goes with a lot of my summer outfits 🙂

Then I headed over to Union Station and boarded my duck tour. It was nice and relaxing and was able to see more of DC. I had never been on a duck tour which is why I decided to go on one here. For lunch I had a Starbucks coffee and slice of pound cake at Union Station before the tour. After a nap, I went and had a panini for dinner at Amorini Panini which was right next store to the hotel.

Tomorrow, I plan on hitting the Lincoln Memorial and maybe skipping the White House since you can’t get up close and personal with it anyway and head to the National Archives and see the Declaration of Independence.

Thursday:

Thursday morning, I went to the National Archives and saw the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, etc. Then I went up to the Lincoln Memorial and from there back to my hotel. My check out was at noon so I figured it was easiest to just go to the airport and hang out until my flight. As I was about to leave the hotel, I realized I had forgot my reception dress – so I ran back to the room and got it. My cab driver’s credit card machine got screwed up so he let me go for free. I managed to get to the gate OK and waited to 4 pm. Then the shit storm happened. My 1 hr flight was delayed 6 hours because of weather and equipment issues. By the time I got up to the counter to board the plane, my transfer ticket wasn’t in their system for whatever reason. By that time I was so worried that I wouldn’t make it on that flight I was literally balling my eyes out. The attendant made me WAIT until I was the last person in line to fix my ticket. I had arrived home by 1 am and was in my bed by 3 am. I woke up the next morning and packed my bags for California.

So there you have it! I’ll be doing a big photo dump when I will get the photos from the VSA people, which will be a few weeks. Ugh – the wait!

National Academy of Sciences party

DSCN5079  Yesterday I went to Woods Hole, Ma which is near Falmouth, Ma for work. I had posted my tarot services last June and got a response from an event organizer who was organizing a reunion at the National Academy of Sciences. It went really well, and I took home $90 extra. They seemed interested in hiring me for future events, so I’m really excited about that prospect. The party went really well in regards to readings and the guests really seemed to get a lot out of it. I had brought my crystal ball and point and actually I think that had a lot to do with the readings going to so well. Who knows. Things had been slow at the tearoom which meant that money was low…. so I think I was also fully ready to get back into reading. Someone who I had read at the party was interested in hiring me as well. So I’m excited where this will take me. If I could just do house parties that would be awesome.

Meditation Space

454511e606c411e380cd22000a9f18de_7  I was surfing on Craigslist for any good deals on furniture for my studio and ran across this round table that has a door in the center where you can store things. I thought it would make a great altar/meditation table. So I went to Billerica today and bought it for $30. It was a bit smaller than what I imagined but fits the space I have for it perfectly and stores the stuff I needed it to store. Now just to update the altar for Mabon. Lol. I haven’t updated it since Beltane. I just haven’t been feeling the energy to work on my spirituality.

A Celebration of Material Exhibition Recap

DSCN5044

The Dick Blicks Reception was a lot of fun! Everyone was super friendly and nice and again everyone seemed really interested in my artwork and how it was produced. Its’ always fun to talk about. There was some rumors at the end that Jennifer Wood a Boston Art Dealer was looking into my work, she even said my “Flowers” (the one in the middle) was exquisite! A nice end to a long and frustrating day!

Tomorrow, I head to Dover, NH to pick up the photography supplies. I couldn’t move in my studio today because the main floors were wet and we couldn’t get in at all. So disappointing and frustrating. So it may not happen until end of September after my travels. Maybe we can fit it in before hand… hm.

Friday evening I am going up to Dover, NH to pick up a darkroom listing. All of this for $75!! I couldn’t believe my luck when I found this and that it was still available – I’m hoping the enlarger works.. if it doesn’t all of that minus the enlarger is still a good deal. It’s a trip, but if it’ll save me a boat load of money then it’ll be worth it. So stoaked for this.

Today, I went and picked up my studio key! FINALLY we can move in and set things up. Excited about that. My dad and I are planning on making the trip to Beverly on Thursday to move some of the stuff in after I drop off my prints for the “A Celebrations of Materials” exhibition in Boston, MA. Then we will make a trip back to Dick Blicks for the reception.

Exhibition Trek Recap

For more Photos see this post!

For my exhibition trip up to Montreal, I chose to use Airbnb since we didn’t need much space.  I definitely recommend Christophe and Nath on Airbnb. The price was right, the location was convenient and little did we know that the neighborhood that we stayed in was an artist neighborhood which added to the ambiance of our trip. The studio apartment was very well kept and in good condition.

Below are some highlights and lowlights of each exhibition and some photos!

DSC_0016

DSC_0001Highlights – Montreal
– Finding out before we left that my artwork was featured on the poster for the event!
– Finding out that Le Plateau Mont Royal neighborhood is an artist neighorhood, the neighborhood we stayed in!
– Dinner at M!STO Restaurant on Thursday – I had mixed green salad, Medaglioni with rosé sauce, molten chocolate cake – very good!
– The Gala at the Montreal Center D’art for my exhibition
– The table I ate dinner at was very nice and then later; the table next to mine got a bit drunk and adopted me. One of the men at the table was hitting on me and kept saying how attractive I was and also was commenting on my dress and how much he liked the print – he was drunk and so it didn’t matter.
– Having people think that I worked at the Montreal Center because I dressed so well!

Lowlights – MontrealDSCN5026
– SO DAMN HOT ; too hot to do much of anything
– the windows and door to our accommodations weren’t that great.
– I walked to the Gala via the metro through a thunderstorm. Socks got wet so blisters started to develop later on during the trip 🙁

DSC_0018DSCN5030

Overall the Montreal Gala diner was what I expected and better than I expected at the same time. The only critique I had was that to encourage the guests to talk to each other more some how (without the alcohol) and to have the black and white photography separate from each other. Some people confused mine withe someone elses because it was below the eye level.

IMG_0961

Highlights – PomfretDSCN5034
– Having people seek me out and ask me questions about my artwork, being genuinely interested in the process, etc
– One of the attendees at the Pomfret exhibit asked me for my autograph and picture. The piece of paper that I signed was a print out of my profile page from the Global Art League website which sponsored the Montreal exhibit – which meant I was googled!
– really good guacamole, cocktails, and deserts!

Lowlights – Pomfret
– Nothing too terrible happened, we just sat at the border from Montreal for a .5 hr so we lost a lot of time.
– by 7 rolled around I was so exhausted and achey I had to keep sitting down. I don’t wear heals all that often, so when I would stand up my legs would just ACHE.

In the end, I think I enjoyed the social atmosphere better at the Pomfret exhibit, but I enjoyed the experience of having a reception and artwork at the Montreal Center. I just wish it wasn’t so hot, but its’ either a heat wave, or tons of snow in Montreal!

Studio Findings #4

Cherry TablesSo I was only able to fit in two tables it turned out because the legs turned out a lot bigger than expected. It was a nightmare trying to get to the place though and I won’t go into details… and the people weren’t very nice about me only able to take two. I know I originally said all, you never know when it comes to furniture and there was just a lot of miscommunication and frustration…but I finally got workspace! At least one table should fit in the darkroom I’ll be using it for.

This concludes my search for furniture for now. I have gotten everything I need and now I have to go get my art supplies.

Shopping Rounds

Since my family has bought their retirement/beach home a few years ago, my mom and I have officially built a shopping routine. There are a few stores that I just -have- to stop by before I leave because the merchandise is almost always different and then there are the few that I go for my spiritual supplies.

First up is the Earth House. This is a hippie, vintage metaphysical store. Its a great pitstop to buy basic supplies for your ritual needs. For example, my mom and I made a pitstop yesterday because my co-worker was looking for Frankincense and Myrah incense. They have tarot cards, candles, scents, gemstones and crystals, and many other cool things! Can be a bit pricey though depending on what you’re looking for. Some of their other gifty things can be a bit pricey, but not so much of the ritual tools.

Next up is Buddha Beads. I 575720_496642970352342_191839206_nabsolutely love this store because their prices are pretty decent! I just picked up a really old address book that I’m going to repurpose into a ritual book or sketch book. It’s a 11×17 and has a marble cover and what I liked about it was that the information can be organized alphabetically by using the letters for the addresses. This place is part metaphysical too. If you need selenite it will be there, or a a hindu statue, or chakra jewelry, incense, buddha heads, rough amethyst slabs, singing bowls, you name it. I like the feel of this store better than Earth House though.487911_496643157018990_343837952_n

The next store that I always find good things at is a thrift store called Local Colour Boutique. My mom and I went in here to look for an orange clutch for my reception gala in Montreal next week but unfortunately ConsignmentScenecame out empty handed. The clothing that is picked out is chic enough and I love how the owner displays the clothing by color (well d’oh!) It’s really eye catching. Haven’t found anything yet at this store, we always seem to go in there looking for something specific and end up not finding, I haven’t actually looking around here! Might try that next time.

Finally, the last thrift store I love is St. Joan of Arc. It run by the catholics of St. Joan of Arc church. The prices here are fantastic and the selection is great. The last time I was here I bought cute purple purse as seen in the picture to below. I have found a few good vintage dresses there too, unfortunately not in my size. There were also a few shoes that I liked.

photoWell there you have it! There are a few other shops we stop at but they aren’t as likeable in my opinion. They tend to be a bit of a hit or miss in terms of pricing and selection – they are Shop For A Song and Hope Chest in Orleans. I had found an awesome painted moon, sun and planet plate at Hope Chest but it was too expensive. Although I did find a sweater there the first or second time I went that I wear a lot. The weekend after Mother’s Day my mom found a candle shade that matched her hydrangea wine glasses that I gave her for Mother’s Day.
