Wheaton College Reception

Last Wednesday my family and I went to the Wheaton College reception and I’m really glad I went! I met Elizabeth Keithline whose the gallery director at Beard and Weil Gallery (at Wheaton College). I have a new found love for Wheaton. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming! My former girl scout leader and her daughter came as well and I was surprised to learn that another artist whom I had previously exhibited with at the Cambridge Art Association was in this show as well!

Other than that not much else happened. There’s a few events later in the week (Gallery Talk and Artist Talk) that I will try to attend. But so far this has been one of the more exciting exhibitions! Can’t wait to see what else may come through this spring and summer! 🙂

Statehouse Working to Make Art Buying Tax Exempt

Yesterday, I finally attended the Artist Under the Dome Event!  It is sponsored by the Mass Cultural Council. The event was geared to celebrating artists are who working and living in Massachusetts. The morning was filled with political figures speaking about the work they’re doing to improve the quality of life of artists working and living in Massachusetts. Treasurer Steven Grossman spoke about working to make art buying tax exempt which will encourage potential art collectors to buy more art directly from the artists as they’ll get a tax break as well. I also learned that they are working on improving the quality of life for Independent Contractors.

The afternoon was filled with lunch, networking and trips to our Senators’ offices. Unfortunately mine weren’t around so I just dropped off my press kits in hopes of something coming out of it! You never know. The afternoon had a panel of leaders who are working in the Boston area who hold leadership positions in prominent artist groups that are trying to make things a little easier. They also talked about major issues that keep popping up; finding space, unpaid internships, etc. Most of which I was already aware of.

Institute for Human Centered Design – Reception

DSCN0390July 23rd, I went into Boston to attend the reception for the ADA 24th Celebration at the Institute for Human Centered Design. I really wanted this exhibition, and I’m glad that my artwork was accepted! This was pine needles second exhibition (Gallery Ehva was first). The reception was very nice and it great to meet the people behind the exhibition and event. There was a poetry slam after the reception and then my family and my brother’s girlfriend and I went to Ward 6, a really good restaurant near by. Great evening!

A Solo Show: Electrolyte!

groundingsllc2I had my reception for Electrolyte! yesterday at Groundings! It was a great success and the right amount of time too. I think 2 hours for a reception is good. For Studio19, my reception/party I think was 3 hours, but I guess it depends on the event. It was just enough for me to meet some of the locals and talk about my artwork.

It was fun meeting a woman who happened to work at the photography studio right next to Minuteman Press. She was their photo retoucher and just happened to be there for a massage but enjoyed the artwork as well once she learned more about it.

I want to say there was a small crowd of people at the reception. Which was nice because I did a lot of internet marketing, but I couldn’t get my press release onto any of the media websites because it was membership only. Meh. For refreshments there was snapple, water and soda and we had cookies and a fruit bowl.

My parents told me that they got married in a park in Noho and wanted to check out the park as well as Main st. At the tapas restaurant we had a lot of delicious food! I even liked some dishes that I normally would turn my nose up at… and that was really refreshing. We had their mussels, crab croquettes, vegetable crepes, meatballs, pork raviolis, short ribs and raw tuna.

Younger Than Amy: Reception

10432010_530199750415228_1366778936_nI had a fantastic time this past week with the Younger than Amy exhibition. After dropping my artwork off on Sunday I came in on Tuesday and helped Ewa, the owner, take down the current artwork and patch up the walls and prepare for the exhibition. Thursday, I came back and hung up the artwork. Friday (yesterday), was the opening reception and once people started to relax a bit more and talk to each other I started to get to know the other artists. I ended up hanging around and talked to them and we ended up going out to Provincetown for the evening. We grabbed food and then bar hopped, one of them paid for my drinks so I didn’t have to worry about running out of cash so that was nice. Our first destination was the Underground, then we went to another one that I forgot the name of that had stand-up comedy and the last one was dance club, called Velvet and then danced for the rest of the evening. The others went back to the Underground after10369337_738870269467033_996069375_nwords and I had to go home since it was getting late that time. They were probably the most down-to-earth people I have met and I felt really welcomed and included. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go since I was accepted into the show last minute, but now I have met some of the locals here and it feels really nice. 🙂 It also felt nice to just let loose since I haven’t really done that for awhile.
