More Design inspiration the Belousov-Zhabotinskii reaction (or BZ reaction)!

The Belousov-Zhabotinskii reaction (or BZ reaction) is performed using a mixture of sodium bromate, malonic acid, sulphuric acid, and ferroin. This creates a complex oxidising reaction that changes colour periodically. The oscillations start with the formation in a red solution of small blue dots that expand into ever-widening concentric blue rings. Sometimes these will become expanding Archimedean spirals; the patterns intermix and become increasingly complex towards the end of the reaction. Hele-shaw cell experiments of form generation

I’ve been looking into hele-shaw cell experiments of form generation.

Of Light:

Light is the very essence of the collective consciousness, or the sub consciousness. In 1996, a fella, by the name of Attila Grandpierre, with a Ph.D. from the Konkoly Observatory of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, issued a scientific paper called, The Physics of Collective Consciousness. It details the quantum electrodynamics physics of the collective consciousness. This is the very collective unconsciousness that Carl Jung experimented and conceptualized. This paper details the different levels of the mind and the power of electromagnetism. In his abstract he states that,

Nature uses the olfactory fields, the acoustic fields, the electromagnetic fields and quantum-vacuum fields. Fields with their ability to comprehend the whole organism are the natural basis of a global interaction between organisms and of collective consciousness.

Grandpierre’s paper on the Physics of the Collective Consciousness is a crucial paper to explaining that subliminal information does indeed exist, and that it aligns with the mystical text of Qabbalah. In Qabbalah, Kamilla states that light is thought,

Understanding how thought is a word, is sound, is vibration, is energy, that glows, which is light… makes it very obvious how thoughts can manipulate light. Thoughts are light. Light is the 3 dimensional form. Change the thought and you change the form. If a person becomes very adept at changing their thought process and manipulating the thought process of those around, this is called magic, because the illusory images appear real.

Constant repetition of a certain idea or thought is hypnotic manipulation and is a concentration of light energy passed through the crystal prism of the human brain – this creates a hot spot of built up energy or thoughts. Thoughts are sounds, sounds vibrate, vibration is energy, energy glows, glowing is light and light is thought.

To achieve hypnotic control and to concentrate energy on the chosen topic being used for hypnotic manipulation the topic must be discussed endlessly and must appear to be natural – it must never appear that mind control and mass hypnosis is actually occurring otherwise the subliminal is no longer a subliminal and the suggestion is discovered making it of none effect – for this reason endless debates – meetings and stalling tactics are used to keep the topic constantly in the minds of the masses – thereby achieving the hot spot. This same formula for mind control applies to everything. Nothing occurs in the 3 dimensional spaces without suggestion first.

Interestingly science has discovered evidence that this physical universe does not exist. In 1982 a remarkable event took place. At the University of Paris a research team led by physicist Alain Aspect performed what may turn out to be one of the most important experiments of the 20th century. Aspect’s experiment is related to the EPR Experiment, a consciousness experiment, which had been devised by Albert Einstein, and his colleagues, Poldlsky and Rosen, in order to disprove Quantum Mechanics on the basis of the Pauli Exclusion Principle contradicting Special Relativity. Aspect and his team discovered that under certain circumstances subatomic particles such as electrons are able to instantaneously communicate with each other regardless of the distance separating them. It doesn’t matter whether they are 10 feet or 10 billion miles apart.

Somehow each particle always seems to know what the other is doing. The problem with this feat is that it violates Einstein’s long-held tenet that no communication can travel faster than the speed of light. Since traveling faster than the speed of light is tantamount to breaking the time barrier, this daunting prospect has caused some physicists to try to come up with elaborate ways to explain away Aspect’s findings. But it has inspired others to offer even more radical explanations.

University of London physicist David Bohm, for example, believes Aspect’s findings imply that objective reality does not exist, that despite its apparent solidity the universe is at heart a phantasm, a gigantic and splendidly detailed hologram. To understand why Bohm makes this startling assertion, one must first understand a little about holograms. A hologram is a three- dimensional photograph made with the aid of a laser.

To make a hologram, the object to be photographed is first bathed in the light of a laser beam. Then a second laser beam is bounced off the reflected light of the first and the resulting interference pattern (the area where the two laser beams commingle) is captured on film. When the film is developed, it looks like a meaningless swirl of light and dark lines. But as soon as the developed film is illuminated by another laser beam, a three-dimensional image of the original object appears.

The three-dimensionality of such images is not the only remarkable characteristic of holograms. If a hologram of a rose is cut in half and then illuminated by a laser, each half will still be found to contain the entire image of the rose. Indeed, even if the halves are divided again, each snippet of film will always be found to contain a smaller but intact version of the original image. Unlike normal photographs, every part of a hologram contains all the information possessed by the whole.

The “whole in every part” nature of a hologram provides us with an entirely new way of understanding organization and order. For most of its history, Western science has labored under the bias that the best way to understand a physical phenomenon, whether a frog or an atom, is to dissect it and study its respective parts. A hologram teaches us that some things in the universe may not lend themselves to this approach. If we try to take apart something constructed holographically, we will not get the pieces of which it is made, we will only get smaller wholes. To mathematicians and visual artists this is also known as fractals.

This insight suggested to Bohm another way of understanding Aspect’s discovery. Bohm believes the reason subatomic particles are able to remain in contact with one another regardless of the distance separating them is not because they are sending some sort of mysterious signal back and forth, but because their separateness is an illusion. He argues that at some deeper level of reality such particles are not individual entities, but are actually extensions of the same fundamental something.
This fundamental connectedness would correlate with The Fifth Element, and its mathematical proof of all aspects of the universe being energetically connected – Hal Puthoff’s assertion in his work on Zero-Point Energy of all charges in the universe being connected and that further mass is in all likelihood an illusion as well — and both of these modern day theories of physics being in accordance with ancient traditions and philosophies, which claim the same connectedness of the diverse parts of the universe.

While the ancient Vedic Vastu has to do with architecture and town planning, I’m positive that Graphic Design can be a two-dimensional mirror of architecture and that when one learns the principles of one design discipline they can apply it to other design disciplines.

They are [Vastu] but Shastras replete with technological material and measures, based on unique Science of Energy and Matter, Time and Space & Space and Spatial Form, so far not recorded in the history of the land of their origin.

There is a Tamil [language of Vastu] expression for signifying death: “Kaalamanan”. This literally means that one has merged with “Time” or “dissolved in time”. This is very much expressive of the scientific concept of time as held in the Indian tradition of Vaastu. “Time” signifies growth of the physical body and the end of that body. Time creates, sustains and erases life. This concept is not only applicable to objects in the universe, but also the universe itself. The universe itself is a product of time.

In India the Tala measure is most familiarly applied to the field of Music and Dance, but that same Tala system has been in force for centuries in the domain of sculpture, architecture and poetry. This Tala measure is also denoted by another term, rhythm, which is used in the fields of music and dance all over the world. This Tala rhythm is used in the design of residential buildings, temple structures and sculptural forms. In the past, it was also used in designing furniture, vehicles and household utensils.

The science behind these measurements has its origin in the vibration of the amorphous space filling in and surrounding the universe. The universe itself is a hypersensitive living organism.

The human body itself has undergone this rhythmic growth. The full-fledged human body consists of eight units of measure: 1.3.2.2. This corresponds to the length of the face – 1 talam, torso – 3 talams, thigh – 2 talams and lower leg – 2 talams.

From these tables we can see that the number “eight” is a very significant quality of universal measure. When “eight is taken as “Time” it is called rhythm and when it is taken as “Space”, it is also called rhythm. The former is rhythmic time and the latter is rhythmic space. These rhythms are derived from universal time and space and represent a universal order. These rhythms we call Taalam.

The architectural octave is the Vastu Purusha Mandala. The Manduka Vastu Purusha Mandala Has the layout of 8 x 8 = 64 units. This energy grid or luminous grid is the picture of the Ultimate – the unitary atom – going into a split or explosion for manifestation in the pattern of 8 x 8 units. This atom is the ultimate visual manifest form of Brahman. Brahmin is the ultimate rhythm. It is the rhythm of Brahmin that we pattern for the design of the building.

Lately I have been a mentor to a friend to interpret her dreams, and have had much success in using the thought-process of Qabalism, or just simply an abstract (archetypal) thought process.

Tonight, I found myself reading the The Rosicrucian Cosmo-conception manuscript on mystic christian teachings that the Rosicrucians have pass down since the time of the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt…

In the chapter called the Four Kingdoms I have found this chart:

I almost never ever remember my dreams and therefore according to this chart I have trance-like sleep which is a deeper connection to the abstract thought..
Basically in dream consciousness the thoughts in the trance-like sleep state manifest.

According to the chart our dense body/physical body is mineral and thus is crystallized, thus then hold the vital body (or ether material), the desire (our soul/spirit) body is our emotional body and then the rest is the mind/body/soul complex.

To Tom Bearden in this physical realm TIME is a fourth dimensional energy. It is the Z axis of space. It is the movement that governs the physical realm. In his work he says GEOMETRY is the basis of everything. ASYMMETRICAL and SYMMETRICAL geometry. Architecture + Art + Science coming together to explain this realm. How cool!

In Leyton geometry, a broken symmetry at a given level does not lose the symmetry information, and it also generates a new symmetry at the next higher level. Hence it increases the overall symmetry. This is necessary, in order for a negative entropy process to exist and for it to absorb and coherently integrate disordered vacuum virtual energy into real, observable, ordered EM energy.

Quasicrystals are structural forms that are ordered but not periodic. They form patterns that fill all the space though they lack translational symmetry.

According to Leyton, The Fundamental Laws of Art = The Fundamental Laws of Memory Storage. According to this, Shape functions as memory storage.

We have seen that the laws produce process diagrams, which give the actions stored in an artwork. That is, the diagrams actually represent the stored memory. Thus, according to this theory, the process of creating the work is that of loading histories into the work, and the process of understand the work is the process of recovering those histories. All the rules of art come from the First and Second Fundamental Laws of memory Storage. These are formulated respectively as the Asymmetry Principle and the Symmetry Principle. That is, the Asymmetry Principle and the Symmetry Principle are , in fact, the fundamental laws of art. Let us now make sure we carefully understand this, as follow: The Asymmetry Principle states that any asymmetry in the present is assumed to have arisen from a past symmetry. And the Symmetry Principle states that any symmetry in the present is assumed to have always existed. Furthermore, to use these two laws, one goes through the simple three-part prcedure given in section 1.4, for recovering the past. One merely partitions the present into its asymmetries and its symmetries. Then one applies the Asymmetry Principle to the asymmetries; and one applies the Symmetry Principle to the Symmetries.

One time I was in NYC with the Art Department we were at the Museum of Art and Design (or MAD) and found the book, 101 things I learned in Architecture School by Matthew Frederick.

According to the principles of architecture; informed simplicity, which is an enlightened view of reality,

an investigation that describes and demonstrates a novel technique for the visualization of magnetic fields.

Two ferrofluid Hele-Shaw cells have been constructed to facilitate the imaging of magnetic field lines.

We deduce that magnetically induced photonic band gap arrays similar to electrostatic liquid crystal operation are responsible for the photographed images and seek to mathematically prove the images are of exact dipole nature.

Hmm, magnetism and geometry. More experiments need to be done to see if we can reproduce sacred geometry in the hele-shaw cells. However the above image PROVES that MAGNETISM is LINEAR and that FORM (shape) follows FUNCTION.

There is an esoteric side to everything, no doubt. That is why I like this school of thought.

Some say script is just the effect of primitive writing. Calligraphy was just a primitive writing style and things developed after the printing press into the print penmanship we know of today.

But one must ask, what made us use flowing inky lines? What in our subconscious told us that flowing lines were easier than architectural letters?

Some say is has to do with the flow of energy and some say it is actually the manifestation of our thoughts (which is light with sound attached).

The Magical Designs of the Shipibo Indians of Peru


Have you ever wondered what inspired the designs of the indigenous peoples?

There are instances when design inspiration comes from an other worldly experience.

He reports that Shipibo shamans believe that taking Ayahuasca permits the shaman’s soul to leave his body in the form of a bird which then can fly to a distant enemy at night. This bird then changes back into the shaman’s human form so he can destroy the sleeping enemy. Shipibo WomanUnder the influence of the Banisteriopsis drink mixture, the Shipibo Indians often report seeing giant anacondas, poisonous snakes, and jaguars. Less frequently, other animals are observed in their visions. In addition, Harner reports that often a shaman, taking the drink, believes he acquires giant snakes which are to be his special demons to be used in protecting himself against other shamans in supernatural battles. The Shipibo shamans, under the influence of the drug, believe they imprison other persons’ souls with supernatural boats whose demon crews are led by a yellow jaguar and a black puma.

The pineal gland is your third eye. It is usually illustrated in art as a pinecone. This eye is actually a small gland in the center of the brain, which we’re told is to help balance both the left and right brain when working properly.

This gland secretes a serotonin known as DMT or Dimethyltryptamine that is nicknamed to be the spirit molecule, because it’s the very tryptamine that helps us fall asleep. This gland is called an eye because it has a retina and is built like our exterior eyes. This eye opens when lights are off, or we close our eyes. In Matthew 4:16 “the people sitting in darkness saw a great Light; and to those sitting in the region and shadow of death, Light sprang up to them,” Isa. 9:1-2. This eye is home to visions, dreams, ideas and imaginations. There has been an interesting study of the brain chemistry of schizophrenics and creative people. The basis of the conclusion of this was the chemistry from the third eye. Schizophrenic behavior occurs when the third eye is awake when the person is awake.

The intricate Shipibo designs have their origin in the non-manifest and ineffable world in the spirit of the Rainforest and all who live there. The designs are a representation of the Cosmic Serpent, the Anaconda, the great Mother, creator of the universe called Ronin Kene. For the Shipibo the skin of Ronin Kene has a radiating, electrifying vibration of light, colour, sound, movement and is the embodiment of all possible patterns and designs past, present, and future. The designs that the Shipibo paint are channels or conduits for this multi-sensorial vibrational fusion of form, light and sound. Although in our cultural paradigm we perceive that the geometric patterns are bound within the border of the textile or ceramic vessel, to the Shipibo the patterns extend far beyond these borders and permeate the entire world.

One of the challenges for the Western mind is to acknowledge the relationship between the Shipibo designs and music. For the Shipibo can “listen” to a song or chant by looking at the designs, and inversely paint a pattern by listening to a song or music.

The Shipibo believe that our state of health (which includes physical and psychological) is dependent on the balanced union between mind, spirit and body. If an imbalance in this occurs such as through emotions of envy, hate, anger, this will generate a negative effect on the health of that person. The shaman will re-establish the balance by chanting the icaros, which are the geometric patterns of harmony made manifest in sound into the body of the person. The shaman in effect transforms the visual code into an acoustic code.

A key element in this magical dialogue with the energy which permeates creation and is embedded in the Shipibo designs is the work with ayahuasca by the Shipibo shamans or muraya. In the deep ayahuasca trance, the ayahuasca reveals to the shaman the luminous geometric patterns of energy. These filaments drift towards the mouth of the shaman where it metamorphoses into a chant or icaro. The icaro is a conduit for the patterns of creation which then permeate the body of the shaman’s patient bringing harmony in the form of the geometric patterns which re-balances the patient’s body. The vocal range of the Shipibo shaman’s when they chant the icaros is astonishing, they can range from the highest falsetto one moment to a sound which resembles a thumping pile driver, and then to a gentle soothing melodic lullaby. Speaking personally of my experience with this, is a feeling that every cell in my body is floating and embraced in a nurturing all-encompassing vibration, even the air around me is vibrating in acoustic resonance with the icaro of the maestro. The shaman knows when the healing is complete as the design is clearly distinct in the patient’s body. It make take a few sessions to complete this, and when completed the geometric healing designs are embedded in the patient’s body, this is called an Arkana. This internal patterning is deemed to be permanent and to protect a person’s spirit.
The smaller flowing patterns within the geometric forms are the radiating power of the Cosmic Serpent which turns this way and that, betwixt and between constantly creating the universe as it moves. The circles are often a direct representation of the Cosmic Anaconda, and within the circle itself is the central point of creation.

In the Western tradition, from the Pythagoreans, and Plato through the Renaissance music was used to heal the body and to elevate the soul. It was also believed that earthly music was no more than a faint echo of the universal ‘harmony of the spheres’. This view of the harmony of the universe was held both by artists and scientists until the mechanistic universe of Newton.

Joseph Campbell the foremost scholar of mythology suggests that there is a universe of harmonic vibrations which the human collective unconscious has always been in communion with. Our beings beat to the ancient rhythms of the cosmos. The traditional ways of the Shipibo and other indigenous peoples still reflect the primal rhythm, and their perception of the universal forces made physical is truly a communion with the infinite.

High-resolution transmission electron microscopy in combination with further electron microscopy techniques is employed for the structural characterisation of quasicrystalline alloys such als icosahedral and decagonal Al-Mn-Pd as well as decagonal Al-Co-Ni. These investigations are in collaboration with several research groups especially with Dr. R. Lück at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research in Stuttgart, Germany, and Dr. S. Ritsch at the Institute for Materials Research of Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan.
