Healing, Stress and Pain Management

A plan for Healing, Stress and Pain Management

The last year has been an eye opener. While I had an idea that I was struggling with something to have it all come up again revealing itself again has been a huge revelation and eye opener. It all makes sense – all of it is connected.

There was some good, a lot of bad and negative. Unfortunately the main issue is not going to solve itself anytime soon however, it’s taught me to take better care of myself and to say ‘no’ when it starts to affect me physically.

It’s also helped me to put a name to things and to connect those things from the beginning and to understand how those things at the beginning connected to the present.

It’s taught me to pay attention to conventional and alternative sources for healing as it aligns with my faith and beliefs.

It’s taught me to protect the things that matter most and are closest to my heart.

It’s taught me that time really does heal as in to help release anxieties and pain.

It’s taught me that sometimes it’s OK to ask for help and to back off when necessary for protection.

It’s taught me to focus on the original intent for starting something if things seem confusing or you feel lost – in this case it was my healing.

At the beginning of this new chapter in my life I visited New Paltz, NY for an Aura Reading. Surprisingly, I never had my own reading done despite my work in Kirlian photography. Little did I know at the time that my healing journey will be lead me back to there.

Through therapy I was advised to develop a stress and pain management routine. This led me to researching wellness centers of all varieties. I wanted something that was both conventional and alternative. I wanted something that had water therapy options as well as spa treatments, and the more conventional – swimming and a fitness center. As well as affordable accommodations and dining as well as memberships. My search led me to Honor’s Haven. While I may not be able to stay over every weekend, it’s definitely close enough that I could go for an evening or a Saturday. The distance itself away is also therapeutic.

It’s also coincidental that recently I was inspired to get back into automatic writing and the higher dimensional being I connected to said I should use my psychic and spiritual gifts as a hook for my creative practice and infuse the elements. Honor’s Haven uses eastern ideas and methods based on the elements.

Greenland is Coming!

I’m nearly there with preparation. This weekend I ordered my supplies and some new photography/film equipment I’m excited to use. I bought a 28” suitcase in hopes that everything will fit. I also plan on buying a small backpack. I started on the script/outline for the movie and an itinerary on how I’ll spend my time. I booked my hotel and car rental for my 30 hr layout in Iceland on the way home. I booked a hiking activity in Greenland to experience more of the landscape. I finalized my budget, itemized it and developed a plan on how to pay for it. I submitted my press releases and contacted the right people for blogging. Other things I’m probably forgetting.

I do plan on doing a test drive of the drone if I have the time before the trip around here as well as some tests with the new camera and developing process.

Progress on Research Trip

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been working hard on my research trip for Greenland this May. I’ve already gotten a schedule down, the campaign and fundraising launched as well as an idea of what imaging techniques to do.

It’s funny because sometimes I think of something and in that moment when I go work on it, it may not have any substance and stash the idea/project away. Then months later when I am involved in something else I think of, ‘hey, I did that thing months ago that I can use again now!’ I usually love when I am able to recycle projects because it usually turns into something else that’s more sustainable.

This time it’s my topography project. I did the first run months ago when the idea came to me, but didn’t see it go anywhere because it didn’t produce a result that I was expecting but didn’t hate the result either, just didn’t know what to do with it. Yet after some thought of image-making I went back and thought that the result can be used in graphic design and realized the value of this result.

This came about after talking with the eco-technology company – The Ocean Cleanup. I had been working on the campaign for the research trip and been following people who are aligned with the arctic circle in some way. One connection was the ocean within the arctic circle since the campaign focused on the ice element. I started following smaller businesses who may not mind collaborating on something and reached out to them. Through some thought and soul-searching, I proposed to them to create some sort of image technique – unique – to their company to help raise awareness of their work. Unfortunately, they didn’t not have the Human Resources to help carry this out. But it gave me another use for my topography project.

I think I am going to keep and eye out for waste-damage in Greenland and see if I can make a topographic impression of it – or several and then use this to create a series of prints.

Gallery: Leo’s First Week

Last Saturday I adopted my first cat! He is an 8-year old, black American short hair. My workplace works with Dakin Shelter and through facebook I was recommended Community Cat Connections in Webster, MA. Leo was rescued two days after my birthday and from death row in a New York City shelter. He was brought to CCC and his story and video were posted to facebook. I was also able to do most of the adoption process through facebook as well through the help of their volunteers.

One the way home from the shelter I had to pull over twice since he had escaped the carrier and hug him both times to calm him down. He is very affectionate and mellow but also seems to like his alone time which seems to be a good fit.

Lifestyle: Fashion – What’s in my Bag?

What’s in my bag?

As an artist on the go I have quite a few items on me that may not be always on someone else.  And the ‘What’s in my Bag’ posts are an age-old in the lifestyle community. I have not done one in awhile nor in this edition of the blog.

Looking at the photo above my items are in order:

  1. Pack of tissues
  2. Glass straw
  3. Writing Utensil roll-up
  4. Ipod
  5. Cell Phone
  6. Vlog Camera – Samsung NX mini
  7. Daily medication
  8. Ibuprofen
  9. Lip Balm
  10. Nail clippers
  11. Liquid Matt lipstick
  12. Pin I designed
  13. Dube tube
  14. Quartz Pipe
  15. Anti-itch cream
  16. Plasma lighter
  17. Tampons

A few things that didn’t make it: ipod/cell phone camera lenses and my wallet.

Graphic Design: Owner Drive

A cooperative is often founded and built on a membership/ownership basis in which owners are provided with incentives to continue to help support the business. As a result the business is an interesting blend of Organizational and Point of Sale systems in which it operates and markets itself. Part of their advertising practices involve an ownership drive which includes the incentives to join and promotional gifts. This year it was two produce bags, a tote bag, and wooden pencils.

My contribution was the poster and produce bags below:

Lifestyle: Apothecary – Urban Moonshine

One of the best things about working at a food cooperative is having access to their robust Wellness Department. I have never been to a store where you can get Apothecary grade products readily available in person without having to order online. With recent developments I have been utilizing this department more so. In my first week back I was experiencing vertigo and the last time I did was when I had surgery in my ear – that time I used ginger powder to combat symptoms and ginger powder worked this time too. Though I ended up using more of a ginger syrup for this type of thing. Ginger also has been a great detoxing agent for me.

Additionally I had been enjoying an aromatherapy diffusor and the Eucalyptus scent. It’s been a great mental clearer as well as helps reduce stress and anxiety. I have been working on making my apartment stress free and finding ways to create a relaxing ambiance.

Lastly, to help with my insomnia I have been enjoying the Urban Moonshine Herbal Apothecary Simmer Down Tonic with Calming Adaptogens, Ashwagandha and Tulsi. I have been making an effort to move away from OTC drugs for everyday use and just consume prescription medicine. URBHA Simmer Down Tonic is a great solution to insomnia and sleepless nights due to stress. Though do keep it mind it won’t eliminate it just help reduce symptoms and promote restful sleep.
